Fair Trade allows us to build the basis for connecting producers from disadvantaged locations with consumers that can have value added from utilising their products. This also allows us to inform consumers on the opportunities for change and to raise awareness and action in reducing the impact of the injustices experienced by these communities.
Through the Rotary Club of Kew, the Fair Trade & Gift Shop stands as a community leader and advocate to bring Fair Trade products to the local market from overseas to deliver this change.
This has been part of a continued and wider effort of helping communities in Timor Leste (East Timor). This has helped set up about 100 micro businesses, with 100% of funds raised provided in Timor-Leste as each enterprise is self-sustained, where we continue to work to provide training and expansion capital.
Linked to a wider network, the
Rotary Club of Kew is part of the Australian Rotary Clubs, which is an international network of business, professional and community leaders who strive to make the world a better place through practical efforts.
The activities include volunteering at home and fund raising in support of local, national and international humanitarian projects. This directly links in to our support within Fair Trade.
We continue to be involved in a broad range of programs locally and internationally, including a mentoring program in the Victoria Police Force, the Life after Stroke program, providing volunteers for Angel Flight, supporting Donations in Kind, raising funds for refugees in Greece, participating in the Sumba eye project in East Indonesia, offering Student Exchanges and lots more.
If you have any questions regarding Fair Trade or even about our efforts, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
