Slaves of the Son of Heaven is the harrowing memoir of survival by Roy Whitecross, who was one of the few Australian prisoners-of-war to survive slavery on the Burma-Thailand railway. Whitecross recounts his years of captivity in Japanese POW camps incluing Changi and Tavoy, Burma, the Burma-Thailand Railway, and Japan itself where he laboured for nine months in an under-ground coal mine.
