Description

The Fifties in Vogue by Nicholas Drake is a richly illustrated retrospective of the 1950s as seen through the pages of Vogue. Published in 1987, the 160-page volume brings together photographs, fashion illustrations, magazine articles and advertisements covering far more than clothing alone. Fashion, film, celebrities, art, architecture, society and popular culture are all explored, providing a vivid picture of a decade emerging from the austerity and uncertainty of the post-war years.

The book captures the distinctive glamour and optimism of the 1950s, from Christian Dior's influential New Look and the growing importance of Paris couture to the changing worlds of Hollywood, entertainment and celebrity. Drake draws on material from Vogue to show how the magazine reflected—and helped shape—the tastes and aspirations of the period. The edition also features a foreword by the celebrated actress Audrey Hepburn, whose reflections on the decade add a personal perspective to this nostalgic and visually striking record of 1950s style and culture

Foreword by Audrey Hepburn. This book is in good condition with one ripped page (see photos) and use on the cover and pages. Some discoloration but pages are all legible.
