First published in 1885, the story follows Edmund of Cheriton, a young English nobleman who becomes involved in the great campaigns of King Edward III and the Black Prince, including the famous battles of Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356). Through Edmund’s experiences as a soldier, traveller and participant in medieval warfare, readers are introduced to the politics, customs and dangers of 14th-century Europe.
