End of the Chapter is the third and final trilogy of John Galsworthy’s Forsyte Chronicles, following The Forsyte Saga and A Modern Comedy. It consists of three novels: Maid in Waiting (1931), Flowering Wilderness (1932), and Over the River (1933), the latter also published as One More River. The trilogy shifts the focus from the Forsyte family to their relatives, the Cherrells, particularly the independent and strong-minded Dinny Cherrell, whose family home, Condaford Grange, represents an older English social order increasingly challenged by the political, moral and economic changes of the 1930s. Through the Cherrell family's relationships, marriages and political concerns, Galsworthy examines changing attitudes toward class, gender, duty and personal freedom. The work was published as a collected trilogy posthumously in 1934, after Galsworthy's death in 1933.
